Where do I even begin? Unfortunately, 2011 hasn’t been a great year for filmmaking. I created a promotional trailer for the Anglia Ruskin University Islamic Society or ARU ISoc, advertising their fund raising dinner that was held in March.
An unproductive summer witnessed the production of only one video, where I spoke about my experiences of Ramadan (the month of fasting) in Ramadan Roundup.
My third and final video of 2011 was a slideshow that I created for the Islamic Society, during the Anglia Ruskin University Freshers’ Fair. The aim of that video was to give an insight to people about what the society does and how everyone can get involved. I joined their committee and was elected as the Communications Officer from September onwards. I’ve really enjoyed being part of the society, as it has given me the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. I was invited for a radio interview at BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, to talk on behalf of the ARU ISoc about Muslim students who were affected by the rise in university tuition fees. Being part of the society has brought many benefits, as it’s helped to give me confidence with public speaking. It’s a very important skill to have if you are going into a career. I have been assessed on giving presentations and seminars for my degree. I won’t lie, it isn’t easy when you’re doing it for the first time because you feel nervous. It simply requires practice and eventually you will start to feel confident. If you are well-prepared for it and you know what you’re talking about, you’ll be fine! For example, I delivered a seminar with two other students on my course, where we talked about the London Riots that took place in August, and how social networking played a crucial role during that time.
Anyway, from an academic perspective this semester has been very tough. I have to say, I was expecting it to be difficult but I have been swamped with so much work! I pray that the results are good!
I’m desperate to create another video sometime soon and hopefully, 2012 will be more exciting. I’m sure it will, we’ve got the London Olympics to look forward to! I should have more free time next year, so this will be an opportunity to work on some new or existing projects. We’ll see what 2012 brings.
This hasn’t really been much of a review has it? I don’t think I’ve done much really. Sorry people. I have been designing websites though. That’s been quite fun. Plus, I’ve learnt how to create a website that can also work on mobile devices in HTML5 using Adobe Dreamweaver CS5.5. Oh yes, I’ve bought the new Adobe Creative Suite CS5.5 Master Collection. It’s awesome! Well, I’ve only used a couple of programs so far. I’ve yet to test out After Effects, but I’m hoping to buy a brand-new desktop computer at some point. For the last 4 years, I’ve been editing videos on a laptop. It’s come to the point where it has become increasingly difficult to do this, and the option of investing in a high-specification PC seems more sensible. I’ve got the software, I just need the hardware now!
I hope you’ve all had a great 2011. Let’s hope 2012 is even better!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
